Volvo debuted two new sedans today: its Chinese-made S60 Inscription and S60 Cross Country.
Lex Kerssemakers, senior vice president for product strategy and vehicle line management at Volvo Cars, said the vehicles, along with the all-new XC90 R Design SUV, were crucial to Volvo’s goal to get back to 100,000 annual vehicle sales in the U.S.
Hakan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo Cars, said: “These two new products, added to the all-new XC90,” which made its U.S. debut in Los Angeles, “are a further statement of our commitment to turn around our performance in the U.S.”
Samuelsson said Volvo intends to launch seven new products in the United States by 2018.
Volvo has increased the sedan’s ride height by 2.5 inches and added all-wheel drive. The S60 Cross Country will be available in the U.S. in the second quarter, the company said in a release.
Volvo, which is owned by Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding, will build the S60 Inscription at Volvo’s plant in Chengdu, China. The S60 Cross Country will be built in Ghent, Belgium, and will go on sale in the third quarter.
Kerssemakers said that in four years the XC90 will be the oldest vehicle in the Volvo fleet.
