The Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG sold overseas will be getting a facelift later this year. It is the AMG-version of Merc’s A-class hatchback, which also makes it the smallest of the AMG models. While India gets the A-class hatchback, the A 45 AMG is not available here.
When Audi announced the new RS3 in the international markets, it snatched the title of the manufacturer of the world’s most powerful compact hatchback from Mercedes and it’s A 45 AMG. The new Audi RS3 was announced in December 2014 with 362bhp from its 2.5-litre, five-cylinder turbo motor, pipping the 355bhp of the current A45 AMG’s 2.0-litre motor. Indian markets will be familiar with this engine, because it also does duty in the CLA 45 AMG and the GLA 45 AMG.
However, AMG boss Tobias Moers has told our sister publication, Autocar UK, that when the refreshed A45 arrives, "it will be the most powerful again". It is believed that AMG plans a significant power upgrade, to perhaps as much as 375bhp.
