Ford has unveiled what it says is “the most track-capable production Mustang ever built”. Showcased at the Detroit motor show 2015, it is a more extreme version of the Mustang GT350, one of the meanest muscle cars ever.
The GT350R takes its inspiration from the original 1965 GT350 Competition, and at its core, has the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine ever made by Ford. The 5.2-litre V8 with a flat-plane crank churns out close to 500bhp and 55.3kgm of torque. It also gets a limited-slip Torsen differential.
Suspension settings on the GT350R are track-biased and come with MagneRide dampers. Wheels are built with lightweight carbonfibre and wear Michelin rubber. As a part of weight reduction, the AC, rear seats, stereo and rear camera have been removed; this has help cut 59kg from the GT350R. Interested customers can also go in for an Electronics Package, which includes dual-zone air-con, an eight-inch infotainment system and a stereo.
When it goes on sale in late 2015, the Ford Mustang GT350R will be available in some international markets only.
