Mercedes-Benz might be in the works to roll out a Maybach-branded SUV. This SUV will look to cash in on the interest in the upmarket sub-brand.
The Maybach brand came to an end in 2013, however, the badge will now find its place in international markets in 2015, on the Mercedes-Maybach S-class. It has been confirmed that the Maybach badge will be used for highly exclusive models, just like AMG is used on performance cars.
“The theory is that we will do more Maybach models,” admitted Martin Hulder, project manager for the S-class. “But it will not be for all vehicles; any Maybach must make sense, because it is not just about putting an emblem on a car. Buyers rightly have high expectations of a Maybach, and we must be sure to always deliver on them,” he added.
After the Mercedes-Maybach S-class, the Mercedes GLS SUV is the one most likely to get the Maybach name. If launched, the Mercedes-Maybach SUV would compete in the super-luxury segment, which will have cars like the upcoming Bentley Bentayga and the much-awaited Rolls-Royce SUV.
