Mini has revealed its augmented reality glasses ahead of the Shanghai motor show. The glasses, literally wearable glasses for the driver, are currently in the prototype stage. It can project vehicle and navigation instructions for the driver, and also render parts of the car ‘invisible’ to improve driver visibility.
The augmented reality glasses, if approved for production, are likely to become high-cost options on all future Mini models.
Other functions of the glasses include a ‘first and last mile’ system that will guide the driver to or from the car to his final destination.
The glasses, as Mini claims, will also assist in parking by projecting images from a fixed camera onto the glasses, which will help assist in locating the curb. They will also take up the function of the heads-up display.
