Suzuki has announced that its upcoming premium hatchback, the YRA, will be powered by the company’s new 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine in the international market. Suzuki has also said that the next-gen Swift will also receive the 1.0-litre unit.
The YRA premium hatchback was showcased at the Geneva motor show as the iK-2 concept and featured the 1.0-litre Boosterjet unit. This engine is a part of Suzuki’s new family of direct injection turbocharged petrol engines which also includes a larger 1.4-litre unit, likely to be introduced in the Chinese market. The YRA hatchback will be positioned above the Swift when it goes on sale internationally and in India sometime next year, and will compete with the likes of the Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz.
However, Suzuki has not confirmed if the new 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine will make its way to the Indian market in the near future.
Suzuki has confirmed that it will be launching its first family of in-house developed diesel engines in the Indian market starting with the 800cc two-cylinder unit that will power the upcoming Maruti Celerio DDiS125. The other diesel engine to make its way to the Indian market will be a larger in-house developed 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that will is expected to power the YBA compact SUV when it goes on sale next year.
