Geneva motor show 2015 preview

The Geneva motor show 2015 will be held March 3-15. It will showcase new models from the likes of Ferrari, Honda, Ford, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin. Although a number of manufacturers will be confirming their presence in the run-up to the show, here’s a list of cars that are most likely going to be present at the show.

Audi
The Ingolstadt-based carmaker will have on display the RS3 and the R8. The RS3 is a performance hatchback on sale in global markets; it makes 362bhp from its 2.5-litre five-cylinder petrol engine and can get to 100kph in 4.3 seconds. The R8 sportscar will be present in its second-generation avatar. It shares mechanicals and some technology with the Lamborghini Huracan, and will be an all-wheel drive only.

Aston Martin
British sportscar manufacturer will be unveiling the Vantage GT3. It is the more extreme version of the V12 Vantage S and is likely to produce as much as 600bhp of power.

BMW
The BMW 1 Series facelift will be making an appearance at the Geneva motor show 2015. It gets tweaked front and rear styling, upgraded infotainment system and a new range of three-cylinder engines for international markets. The current four-cylinder engines will also be updated to deliver more power and improved efficiency. Unlike the current car which is a rear-wheel drive, the facelifted 1-series will be a front-wheel drive. BMW will also be showing a larger version of the 2-series Active Tourer MPV that is sell in global markets. This one comes with seven seats instead of five.

Ferrari
The Ferrari 488 GTB to be unveiled at Geneva, is the successor to the fabled 458 Italia. It gets a new twin-turbo V8 engine developing 660bhp. Ferrari has also announced its return to Indian markets, whether they eventually bring this car to our shores is still not confirmed.

Ford
The American carmaker’s hot hatchback for global markets, the Focus RS, is into its third-generation. This one has a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine that generates 316bhp; it also gets all-wheel drive.

Honda
Unlike the sedan model that used to be on sale in India, the Honda Civic in international markets is a hatchback. The Geneva motor show 2015 will see the debut of the Civic Type R – Honda's new hot hatch which is expected to produce around 300bhp from its turbocharged 2.0-litre engine.

Hyundai
The South Korean brand has quite a few models lined up for Geneva. First up is the i30 facelift. The i30 is a hatchback bigger than the i20, sold in global markets. The facelift gets a sporty turbocharged version with 183bhp, as part of the updated range. Then there is the sedan model which is on sale in international markets, the i40. The facelift gets refreshed styling, upgraded engines and a new transmission feature as part of the line-up. Hyundai will also showcase the i20 coupé – the sleek three-door version of the i20 hatchback, and the new Tucson SUV.

Infiniti
Nissan’s luxury wing, Infiniti, will showcase a thinly veiled concept called QX30. It is set to go on sale in international markets at the end of 2015.

Jaguar
The Brit carmaker will have on display the XJ facelift. It gets minor cosmetic changes and some new infotainment options.

Lamborghini
Lamborghini has plans to introduce the Aventador SV, and will most likely unveil this more potent Super Veloce version of Lamborghini's supercar. It is expected to have more than 700bhp in its reserves.

McLaren
The sportscar manufacturer will unveil the P1 GTR. This is the more hardcore version of McLaren's P1 hypercar, and will rival Ferrari's LaFerrari FXX K. McLaren will also introduce the 675LT. This new 'Long Tail' McLaren pays homage to the F1-based original.

Morgan
This family-owned British marque has announced that it will showcase a new supercar at the Geneva motor show 2015.

Porsche
Porsche has two confirmed models headed to Geneva – the 911 GT3 RS and the recently revealed Cayman GT4. The 911 GT3 RS was scheduled for release last year, but instead, the ultimate 911 is finally being revealed at the Geneva show 2015. As the name suggests, the Cayman GT4 is a more powerful version of the Cayman. It gets 380bhp from its 3.8-litre flat six engine.

Renault
The French company will jump into the crossover fray with the unveiling of the Renault Kadjar. It shares a number of its components with the Nissan Qashqai.

Rolls-Royce
Rolls-Royce will be bringing the Wraith convertible to the Geneva motor show 2015. This open-top Rolls gets styling inspired by the Ghost and a soft-top roof.

Skoda
The new Superb’s interior was recently revealed by Skoda. The car will officially be unveiled at the Geneva show.

2018 Lamborghini Urus India review, test drive

On first introduction, it’s a recipe for intimidation. It’s claimed to be the fastest SUV in the world (0-100kph in 3.6sec and a top speed of 305kph puts it nearly in supercar territory), and it’s made by Lamborghini – creator of some of the most savage vehicles on the market. Things – as with any Lamborghini, for that matter – would be a lot less daunting if we were driving on a smooth European country road, a wide motorway, or even a race track. But today we’re driving the Urus on a narrow  ghat  road, as well as through some heavy Pune traffic. Perhaps the intention was to demonstrate that this is the first Lamborghini ever to go on sale in India that truly works in our conditions – but still, I doubt they accounted for rush hour. It’s requisitely mad to look at, employing as many ‘sporty’ design tropes to an SUV body style as possible – the only thing missing is a massive wing on the back; and somehow, it works. It’s ...

Honda CB Unicorn 160 vs Suzuki Gixxer comparison

There is no replacement for displacement, as goes the old American saying, with which the rest of the world often nods in agreement. Increase in the number of cubic centimeters of fuel that our engines burn, seems only to be a pleasant idea to almost every petrolhead. More power, more torque and a healthier sounding grunt from the exhaust are the common expectations from larger engines. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has walked this same path, to add 10 extra cubic centimeters of capacity to the now proven CB Unicorn engine, to make the Honda CB Unicorn 160. FROLIC FASHION Although some of the features of the older CB Unicorn have been bettered, we’ve gone ahead and pitched it right in at the deep end, to face off against the very best in the segment to find out the exact degree to which this motorcycle has improved. So, in steps the Suzuki Gixxer, a Japanese-made premium commuter that’s fast rising to the top of its segment, with enough promise to overshadow all o...

Land Rover Discovery Sport review

Two things. To start with, it’s Land Rover’s replacement for the popular and capable Freelander. It’s also the first of the models from Land Rover’s new Discovery sub-brand, one that will focus on utility in the same vein as the Range Rover line is about luxury. The Discovery Sport was shown as a concept last year and the production version’s styling doesn’t stray too far from the prototype. It’s smart, well proportioned and interesting but doesn’t have the show value of something like an Evoque. Still, there’s a certain honesty to the chunky shape which, if you think about it, more than links the Sport to the Freelander. The Sport is 91mm longer than its predecessor and also sits on a wheelbase that’s grown by 80mm. These increments, and the incorporation of a compact multi-link rear suspension, have allowed Land Rover to fit in a third row of seats, giving the Sport a big advantage over its five-seat competitors – the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60. But Land Rover is being cau...
